On the morning of September 11, the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning held the orientation meeting for international students in the fall semester of 2024. Feng Chi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Deng Zhaoli, Deputy Director of the External Liaison Office, Yin Qianshi, the tutor of international students and 12 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral freshmen from 10 countries attended the meeting.
Feng Chi, on behalf of the Faculty, extended a warm welcome to all international students and gave a brief introduction to the Faculty. Students learned that Chongqing University's Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning has a long history and is one of the eight most prestigious architecture departments in China. He hoped that students would work hard to improve their specialty literacy and academic ability, and gain brilliant performance in their studies and also encouraged them to enrich their after-school life, such as experiencing the culture of China and actively participating in various activities organized by the university and the faculty. In the end, he stressed the requirement to abide by the laws and regulations of China as well as the rules and regulations of the university.
Afterwards, these international students introduced to each other their nationalities, hobbies, majors and research directions.
Next, Yin Qianshi gave a detailed introduction to the students in terms of academic requirements, scholarship policy and daily management, so as to make them fully aware of the use of the educational administration system, curriculum setting, course selection requirements, graduation criteria, master's thesis procedures, annual scholarship review as well as attendance and leave regulations. This meeting was held with reference to the orientation held for Chinese postgraduates of the Faculty, expounding the master's thesis procedures in details, including requirements on time and examination of key procedures such as thesis proposal report, mid-term assessment and comprehensive examination of doctoral students, so that postgraduates can make academic planning and preparation early.
In the Q&A session, Yin also answered some specific questions about annual scholarship review, club activities, course selection requirements for exchange students, and criteria for doctoral students to publish periodical papers.
This meeting held by the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, combined with Chongqing University's orientation for freshmen aims to help international students fully understand the faculty, define their academic goals, and plan their studies reasonably, which is also conducive to enhancing mutual understanding and their sense of identity and belonging, and helping them start a fulfilling journey at CQU.
