FAUP's Researcher He Baojie dubbed as 2021 “Green Talent” and received by Chinese Embassy in Germany on line

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany held the 2021 “Green Talents” Awarding Ceremony on line on October 15, 2021. At the event, 25 outstanding young researchers were granted the honor in recognition of their important contributions to the sustainable development. Researcher He Baojie from the Research Center for Climate Resilience and Low-carbon City of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University is among the awardees as the only Chinese researcher receiving this honor in 2021.

 

He Baojie is currently a researcher and doctoral supervisor of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of CQU. His research areas focus on urban heat mitigation and adaptation under global/local climate change, zero energy consumption building and passive residential design. He has also been an advocate of the construction of cool cities and communities. He Baojie has published more than 80 high-quality papers in English journals, and delivered oral reports at many major conferences held at home and abroad. He Baojie has served as the special editor, chief guest editor, deputy editor in chief, editorial committee member, conference chairman, branch chairman and scientific committee member of various internationally renowned journals (Sustainable Cities and Society, Remote Sensing, Frontiers in Public Health and Buildings) and conferences on invitation. He is appraised as one of top 100,000 scientists (2%) in the world in 2020 by Mendeley. Researcher He Baojie is currently the chairman of the First International Conference of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability.

 

The Green Talents Award was founded in 2009 as supported by Wanka, minister of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany. The focus of the Award this year was the various sustainable development goals of United Nations. This Award is presented to outstanding young researchers in recognition of their considerable research contributions to the sustainable development field. In the selection of “Green Talents” in 2021, the senior expert jury selected 25 highly potential scientific researchers out of 467 applicants from 78 countries.

Judges of the “Green Talents” Award spoke highly of the efforts made by He Baojie in sustainable urban planning and urban climate, in particular his pioneering research of urban heat mitigation and adaptation, net zero carbon built environment. This is particularly important to solve the urban heat problem caused by high temperature heat wave and heat island effect in the process of urbanization in the context of climate change. Winners of the “Green Talents” Award in 2021 participated in a two-week scientific exchange which started on October 7. During this period, they were expected to build ties with researchers from reputable universities such as Freiburg University, Technical University Munich, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Berlin Institute of Technology, so as to lay a foundation for mutual cooperation in the future.

After the Ceremony, Counselor Sun Guowang of the Department of Science and Technology of the Chinese Embassy in Germany met with researcher He Baojie on line, congratulated him on winning the Award as the only Chinese researcher, and spoke highly of his efforts to promote the global sustainable development. In 2022, He Baojie will be invited to Germany to participate in fully-subsided cooperative research projects.
