Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning holds its 2021 Doctor and Master Forum

Abstract
The 2021 Doctor and Master Forum of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of
Chongqing University, taking “mountain city and beautiful settlements” as its theme,
was held in Room 5223 of the Architecture Pavilion on October 25, 2021. This Forum
is sponsored by the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of Chongqing University
and organized by the Graduate Student Union of the Faculty, with assistance of the
Journal of Human Settlements in West China. Professor Zeng Wei, Professor Zhu Jie
and Researcher Fengchi from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning were
invited to the Forum as guest judges.

Chen Kehang and Jin Xiaodong from the Academic Department of Postgraduate Group Association presided at the Forum.
This Forum was held for postgraduates, doctoral candidates and oversea students currently studying at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in an effort to encourage postgraduates of architecture disciplines to fully utilize their professional advantages, stimulate their interest in academic and scientific researches, inspire in-depth research and thoughts of the current situation and future of the industry, and allow them to put forward suggestions on the planning of the “14thFive-year Plan” and the 2035 Vision. At the Forum, 10 students that had passed the first round of communication review after submitting a paper made a paper presentation, which was then commented by the expert judges one by one.
Xie Hui, vice dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning delivered a speech. In his speech, Xie pointed out that the inter-disciplinary and discipline-integrated research was of significance to development of architecture disciplines. He also gave an introduction to the process of paper selection in the early stage of the Forum that highlighted the openness, fairness and equality of the entire selection process, and expressed his expectations for the 10 students who were aboutto make presentations at the Forum.
He Linjun delivered a presentation titledA Study of Viability of Industrial, Historical and Cultural Blocks in the Context of Multivariate Date-A Case Study of Yuejin Road, Mianyang City.In her presentation, He gave a view of the in-depth research and investigation of the viability of the industrial, historical and cultural blocks with Yuejin Road, Mianyang City as an example, and put forward specific measures to improve the viability taking into consideration the current status investigation and result data analysis.
Jie Pengyu delivered a presentation titledA Study on the Regulation Strategy of Urban Spatial Form from the Perspective of Urban Heat Island-A Case Study of Yuzhong Peninsula in Chongqing. From preliminary macro qualitative analysis to quantitative measurement and data analysis of practical case, taking Yuzhong Peninsula in Chongqing as an example, he analyzes the relationship between urban heat island effect and spatial form distribution of blocks, and puts forward the prevention and control strategies to deal with high-temperature heat wave disasters according to the spatial planning and design of high-density urban blocks in China.
Alawi Mohsen Ali Mohsen delivered a presentation titledPubic Open Space Responsiveness To Earthquakes; Towards Resilient Cities. Through literature review and case analysis, he compared and discussed the daily use of public open space in many countries and the elastic function of public open space as refuge space when earthquake and other disasters stroke, and summarized and put forward the design strategy of public open space from the perspective of resilient city.
Li Guanda delivered a presentation titledA Study on the Performance of Road Sound-absorbing Materials Based on Fly Ash Floating Beads. Li introduced the experimental analysis and research of the sound-absorbing performance of sound-absorbing materials of roads from the following four aspects: the current situation investigation of sound barrier, experimental process, mathematical model analysis, conclusion and prospect, and obtained the sound-absorbing effect of experimental materials under different conditions. In his presentation, Li also put forward some suggestions on the application of road materials and model analysis.
Liu Chen delivered a presentation titledInterpretation of the Authenticity of Cultural Heritage Based on Multiple Subjects and Objects-A Case Study of Longxing Ancient Town. Taking the absence of authenticity of architectural cultural heritage as the starting point, Liu put forward the ideaon renewal of cultural heritage based on the analysis of authenticity of multiple objects and subjects, and took Longxing Ancient Town as an example to interpret the authenticity and study the renewal of cultural space.
Wang Yun delivered a presentation titledA Study on Environmental Governance of Informal Markets in the Renewal of Old Communities. His presentation focused four aspects: research background, research problems and significance, research content and research conclusions. In the presentation, he introduced the current situation, origin and development, definition and classification, environmental characteristics and governance of informal market problems, and took Caojia Lane as an example to analyze the current situation of its active population and environmental characteristics. In the last part of his presentation, Wang put forward the governance principles and strategies of informal market in the context of inclusive development.
Wu Tianhao delivered a presentation titledA Comparative Study on the Prayer Wheel Cave No. 136 in Beishan of Dazu Stone Carvings and the Prayer Wheel in Pilu Bodhimaṇḍa, Baoding Mountain. With the relationship between the two grottoes of Dazu Stone Carvings, Wu compared the type and scale of the two grottoes, explored the modular relationship between the prayer wheel chambers, summarized the prototype style of imitation wood prayer wheel in the Southern Song Dynasty in Bashu Region, in an effort to reveal the evolution of type and spatial meaning of prayer wheel in Bashu Region through the type comparison of existing prayer wheel.
AL-Fanini Sumyah Mohammed delivered a presentation titled theExploring the characteristics of cultural landscape sites in Yemenon line. In the presentation, he introduced in detail the characteristic cultural landscape types and rich cultural values of mountain cities in Yemen, and discussed the protection mechanism of cultural landscape of Yemen through investigation and interview, in an effort to provide guidance and advice on development, protection and evaluation of cultural landscape sites in Yemen.
Xie Xinyi delivered a presentation titledA Study on Ecosystem Evaluation and Protection of Forest Park from the Perspective of Land Space-A Case Study of Huaguoshan Forest Park In Shehong City. Based on the policy background and current situation survey, Xie put forward the "double evaluation" system of forest park ecosystem that integrates the evaluation of resource and environment carrying capacity and the suitability evaluation of land and space development, and took Huaguoshan Forest Park located in Shehong city as an example to study the application of the evaluation system.
Yin Zipei delivered a presentation titledA Study on Micro-renewal Based on Child-friendly Mountain City Communities. By investigating the daily activities and activity sites of children aged between 3 and 11 in typical old communities, Yin carried out spatial evaluation, type extraction and design strategy interpretation of old communities in mountainous cities in terms of spatial characteristics, environmental safety and needs of residents. From the perspective of the combination of design and governance, Yin summarized the micro-renewal path of old mountain communities that involves "legal protection, diversified organizations and children's involvement".
Upon completion of the presentations, guest judges and audiences had a heated discussion on writing of postgraduate dissertations. Zeng Wei expressed his hope for everyone to have great goals, and suggested that the School hold more such activities in the future. Zhu Jie asked the students to be more rigorous in academic studies. Feng Chi shared his ideas and thoughts on how personal research should be precise. At last, Xie Hui delivered a conclusion speech of the event, and expressed his thanks to the audience and participants.
After review of the experts, the first prize went to Li Guanda, Yin Zipei, and Wu Tianhao; the second prize went to Jie Pengyu, Alawi Mohsen Ali Mohsen, Liu Chen, AL-Fanini Sumyah Mohammed, Xie Xinyi, Wang Yun, and He Linjun. After that, the participants took group photos and this Forum came to a successful end.
