History

CQU was founded in 1929. In the early 1940s, it already becomes a national comprehensive university, covering complete disciplines like Humanities, Science, Engineering, Business, Law and Medicine. Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning (FAUP) is one of the earliest schools to establish architecture education in China. Its history can be traced back to 1937, that is, architecture group setting up in the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, Chongqing University. In 1941, the Department of Architecture has been formally approved to establish by the Ministry of Education of the National Government. During the national reallocation of educational resources in 1952, based on the Department of Architecture, Chongqing University, together with Southwest Industrial College, North Sichuan University, South Sichuan Industrial College, Chengdu Art College, Southwest Traffic College, a total of six colleges of nine Departments of Civil Engineering and Architecture merged into the Architecture Department of Chongqing Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering (CIACE)(in 1954 it changed the name to Department of Architecture, Chongqing Institute of Architectural Engineering(CIAE) and it was one of the eight most prestigious architecture departments in China. Department of Architecture, Chongqing Institute of Architectural Engineering(CIAE) expanded into the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning (FAUP),Chongqing Architecture University in 1994. In 2000,Chongqing University, Chongqing Architecture University and Chongqing Architecture College merged into CQU, and FAUP, Chongqing Architecture University renamed to the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of Chongqing University.


With 80 years’ development, FAUP is one of the architecture schools with most complete school system covering Bachelor degree, Master degree, Doctoral degree and Postdoctor, , and best educational facilities with abundant teaching and research resources, also ranks top on academic and research in China.
